SEAL BEACH, Calif. – The annual Run Seal Beach event, known as “The little run with a big heart,”  was held on Saturday, March 28 and brought thousands of runners to Old Town Seal Beach. Run Seal Beach is a nonprofit organization whose goal is to foster community involvement and raise money to give back to local communities. Participants were encouraged to run, walk or stroll through the events; completion was the main goal!

The event started with the 1k Fun Run for kids, who raced to the finish line with a small play area at the end near Main St. 30 minutes later, the 5k and 10k events began, where thousands of runners took off and raced down Ocean Ave

“It is so nice to see everyone come together as a community so early on a Saturday morning to have some fun,” said local resident Shelly Diane.

The ocean of runners running along the coast was quite the sight to see on a Saturday at 8:00 a.m. 17-year-old Matthew Mayhue claimed the fastest time in the 5k race with a time of 16:41 in the 17-19 age group. For the 10k run, 31-year-old Andrew Shen crossed the line with a time of 33:03. Everyone did an outstanding job and had a blast at the event. Runners from far and wide came to both watch and participate in the race.

There were many student volunteers from Los Alamitos High School helping out at the event, such as the girls’ lacrosse, advanced dance, girls’ basketball, boys’ football and track & field teams. They all contributed to the event setup and encouraged the runners to finish strong. The event would not have been possible without the efforts of volunteers across nearby communities.

“I really enjoyed helping out with setting everything up for these runners,” said volunteer Michael Wills.

People from all age groups came to participate in the race. Whether walking or running, everyone had a great time. Anticipation for next year’s race is already brewing; hopefully, everyone will come back next year on April 10 for Run Seal Beach 2027.
