About Us

About the Griffin Gazette: 

The Griffin Gazette is the award-winning, student-run newspaper produced by Los Alamitos High School’s journalism class. Founded in 1969, the Griffin Chronicle was discontinued for two years and revived in 2022 as the Griffin Gazette. The 2025-2026 staff is comprised of co-editors-in-chief Katie Arnoult and Jaya Eapen; editorial board Alizabeth Martin, Reese Neiger, Amelia Gutierrez, Alyssa Mathews, Giulietta Morad and Brooklynn De Shazer; 15 staff writers and journalism adviser, Mrs. Franzen. 

Mission Statement:

Our mission is to report frequently updated news affecting our school, students and the Los Alamitos community. We value accurate, ethical and trustworthy reporting to achieve unrestricted freedom of expression. The Griffin Gazette strives to provide unbiased journalism that gives all perspectives an opportunity to be included and brings attention to underrepresented subjects. We will report the news transparently, covering campus events and promoting diversity at LAHS. Articles also offer student opinions and insight on topics relevant to the LAHS community. 

Policies:

For confidentiality purposes, we cannot allow sources to read articles before they are published. However, readers can trust that our writers will represent sources’ views as accurately as possible and never publish anything off the record. The Griffin Gazette will not disclose the identities of any sources who wish to remain anonymous. All articles will be thoroughly researched and published with editor approval. 

Comments:

This is a student-run newspaper, meaning the protection of all LAHS students and staff will be Griffin Gazette’s first priority. When posting a comment, be mindful towards the journalists. Remain civil and factually correct when making your argument for or against the article. Profanity, hate speech, speech that incites violence and defamation will not be tolerated. Any comments promoting or advertising goods or services will not be permitted. Instead, please refer to our ad sheet. All comments are subject to approval by Griffin Gazette staff. Corrections:

Corrections regarding accuracy will be rectified as soon as possible. Readers can email writers through our staff profiles, fill out our feedback form or reach out through our Instagram account. 

Submissions:

The Griffin Gazette accepts original guest submissions including opinion pieces, commentary, reviews, personal narratives, informational articles, artwork, and multimedia content relevant to the school community. All submissions must be school appropriate, factually accurate, properly sourced, and free from plagiarism, harassment, hate speech, or discriminatory language. Contributors must include their full name and relationship to the school community and may be asked to provide supporting source material or complete revisions prior to publication. All submissions are reviewed by the editorial staff and adviser for accuracy, clarity, style, tone, and relevance, and acceptance for publication is not guaranteed. The Griffin Gazette reserves the right to edit, decline, publish, archive, or promote submissions across print, digital, and social media platforms. Opinions expressed in guest submissions are those of the individual writer and do not reflect the views of the Griffin Gazette staff, adviser, administration, or the Los Alamitos Unified School District.
