How to fill your days this summer
Pickleball is a competitive, but great way to connect and exercise with your friends and family. Although it’s almost the same as tennis, the courts are smaller, making it easier to get around the court and play more casually. To play, you can find courts at parks, schools and pickleball/tennis centers. To spice up your pickleball afternoon, you can create and personalize your own paddle. Buy a plain white paddle and decorate it to your taste with your favorite colors and designs.
“Playing pickleball is really fun because I’m good at it. I have all the celebrations, dances, I’m a pickleball pro,” said Los Alamitos High School junior Clara Rodrigue.
One of the easiest ways to enjoy a fun summer activity is to play card and board games at home. Whether it’s the standard Uno set of cards or Monopoly, gather all your friends and family, get some snacks and drinks and put together a chill game night for everybody. If you don’t already have games, go to your local Target and buy classics like Candyland, Heads Up, Battleship or even make up your own games that are personal to your group.
Spend a sunny summer day at the fair with unlimited trucks of delicious foods, carnival rides, games and live performances. Take a couple of friends, buy a ticket and enjoy the day pass and the summer festivities. The Orange County Fair, located in Costa Mesa, is a great example of a fair that you won’t regret spending money on.
Playing beach volleyball is a very popular way to spend your day at the beach, and for good reason. Beach volleyball is simple, easy to find at a local beach and one of the most exhilarating and fun activities that will undoubtedly make you want to fight for the win, despite diving into the hot sand for multiple hours straight. To make beach volleyball a full-day activity, invite all your friends and family to compete against each other and turn the sand courts into an actual volleyball tournament.
One of the most core-memory-making things to do with your friends is hosting a karaoke night. Singing your heart out, dancing and laughing to the lyrics is a great way to spend a couple of hours having fun. You can host a karaoke night at home, or you can even go to a place that has live karaoke and get the chance to sing in public.
“Karaoke is just a fun way to bond over songs and a great way to have fun with your friends, said LAHS sophomore Geneva Kendler, “you can just be stupid and entertain each other at the same time.”
