LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. — Students are in shock after the new hit show “Grinning Friends” was canceled after the first episode. The creators of the show, Jack Connor and Michael Han, claim that the show was on its last legs.
“We felt the show was going on for too long,” said Jack Connor. “We don’t want the show to be one of those shows that make people think ‘oh god that’s still going.’”
The creators of “Grinning Friends” felt that after the record-breaking first episode of the show and the upcoming green-flagged episodes two and three, it was going on for too long. Many students are very shocked by this turn of events, with many fans wishing for the show to continue.
“I saw the first episode, and I thought it was really good, but when I checked, there were no other episodes,” said Kyle Smith, Los Alamitos High School junior.
After stating his confusion about why there were no other episodes of the show, the Griffin Gazette sadly had to bring Kyle the bad news.
“Wait, what? There was only one episode. Why did they cancel the show?” said Kyle Smith in response.
“Grinning Friends” was a very different experience from everything else that was on the air, and many fans feel it was a shame that it ended after its short run. It drew on the characters’ realness, which many fans related to.
The four characters in the show are Scoobert the naked mole rat and Jorge, who lives in his belly button, OJ the orange critter, Gleebus the goblin and Bert the regular guy. Together, they go on wacky adventures, with many fans relating to the characters and growing to love their goofy personalities.
With the closing of the show, the people working on it have had to adapt quickly to the situation, with the news being a surprise to many of them.
“I don’t have a job now. ‘Grinning Friends’ was my main source of income,” said John Steinberg, “Grinning Friends” animator.
All in all, this decision to end the show is the choice of the creators. People will remember the show for its comedy and animation, which attracted many and the joy it brought to many fans. The hours of hard work that went into the show truly shine in its first, and unfortunately, last episode.

This article brought me to tears. I was immediately moved by the drawing of the mole rat, and began sobbing uncontrollably upon seeing the parallels between the fictional Grinning Friends and my beloved Smiling Friends. Your use of satire has brought light to this diabolical issue in television. Thank you for your service.

Your satire was very effective because it used absurd details to make a serious point about how ridiculous entertainment coverage can become. The way you built the story made the joke feel deliberate and well thought out. Thank you for writing something so meaningful. It’s an absolute masterpiece.

This article really spoke to me as a Smiling Friends fan. Hazbin Hotel should’ve been the one to go.

This article was intriguing from start to finish. Thank you for speaking for those who are unable to get their voice out there on this topic. Plus, the touch of animators losing their jobs truly allows me to see how in tune you are with other communities that were affected by the cancellation directly, above just being fans. Overall, this is an impressively crafted satirical article!

Aiden, this piece is a work of art. From the image you chose for the cover of the article to the diction, everything about it is a chef’s kiss. Just like many other fans, I too am very sad that smiling friends will not continue after season three. Your article was very interesting and i’m excited to see what you are going to cover next.

Aiden you are a talented writer, and this article really tickled my fancy because I am like the majority and love the beloved smiling friends. Seeing a satirical article point out the outrageous conclusion to the series makes my voice feel heard. Do you think there will be a season 4 in the unforseen future or is this it? Keep on writing!

The ingenuity in creating this article was top-notch, and I praise you for that. I love the drawing, and it’s unique but disgusting art style that matches the actual show. The use of fake names and aliases was a great addition.
