LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. — The growing anticipation over the last nine years leading up to the sequel of Disney’s 2016 box office hit “Zootopia” has made viewers increasingly more excited. “Zootopia 2” left its audience satisfied and looking forward to the possibility of a third film.
The movie follows the returning main characters, Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman), as they navigate their new partnership as police officers trying to better the city of Zootopia, one day at a time. As rookies, they must prove themselves to their peers, eventually stumbling across a mystery regarding a snake (Ke Huy Quan) and a stolen historic book.
Byron Howard and Jared Bush both returned as co-directors for the sequel. The quick-witted comedic style that’s enjoyable for both adult and child viewers successfully drew out bundles of laughter from the audience.
Howard and Bush did a fantastic job balancing comedy with the importance of the true message: everyone belongs, no matter what they look like from the outside. Touching on themes such as equality, kindness and racism in such a tactful way is a true feat, one they accomplished beautifully.
Goodwin and Bateman are hilarious on screen together. Despite their characters’ obvious differences as bunny and fox, they prove to be a fantastic duo—solving crimes, teasing each other relentlessly, while also developing a life-long friendship along the way.
The animators, Nathan Engelhardt, Jennifer Hager, and others bring the film to life with vibrant colors, unique settings and incredibly goofy characters. The intricacies of each shot pull the audience into the plot and keep them riveted the entire film.
Most adults brush off new Disney films as ‘kiddy’ and lacking in quality, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth for this film. Since its release, “Zootopia 2” has broken records for box office sales in a limited amount of time, reaching 559 million views in just a few days. This utterly hilarious, family-friendly film is an absolute must-see on the big screen.
