LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. – As summer quickly approaches, movie fanatics are preparing for a season of entertainment. Highly anticipated sequels, reboots and original stories are expected to attract audiences throughout the season. This summer’s movie lineup is creating excitement long before opening night.
“Toy Story 5”
Releasing on June 19, the film follows all the original characters, Woody, Jessie, Buzz and the others, battling with Bonnie’s new iPad, Lily, for the young child’s interest. The iPad takes over Bonnie’s world to the point where the device becomes her new favorite toy. Fans are looking forward to the possibility of a continuation of the storyline and more movies. Many fans are also eager for the return of the beloved characters. As one of Pixar’s biggest franchises, Toy Story fans old and new are looking forward to seeing how the movie will turn out.
“Moana”
As part of Disney’s continued effort to adapt its beloved cartoons into live-action movies, an adaptation of “Moana” hits theaters on July 10, starring Catherine Laga’aia as Moana and Dwayne Johnson as Maui. The movie follows Moana’s epic ocean voyaging adventure, highlighting Polynesian culture and breaking boundaries. Fans are thrilled for the return of characters as well as to see how Disney will recreate the original movie’s magic that fans love.

“Spiderman: Brand New Day”
The franchise’s fourth film follows Peter Parker’s adult life as he keeps the streets safe while remaining anonymous. The film introduces a new villain that Spider-Man has to face, while the world around him has no memory of him. This movie takes place four years after the last movie, “No Way Home.” On July 31, fans will see the returning cast of Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon and Mark Ruffalo. New cast members include Sadie Sink, Liza Colon-Zayas and Tramell Tillman.
“Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow”
Following the storyline of Tom King’s comics in the eighth issue of the Supergirl series. The movie shows a younger Supergirl who goes on an adventure, and the movie follows Kara Zor-El and an alien girl on a galactic road trip to hunt down a villain. Featured cast members include Milly Alcock, Jason Momoa, David Corenswet and more. This movie hits theaters on June 26.
“The Odyssey”
The film, inspired by Homer’s epic poetry piece, “The Odyssey”, highlights a hero’s ten-year journey home after the Trojan War. Throughout the adventure home, Odysseus battles mythical creatures such as sirens and sorceresses and loses his crew. His goal is to return home to his family. The movie stars Matt Damon, Zendaya, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson and many more, releasing on July 17.
“I am most excited to see this movie because I enjoyed reading the book,” said LAHS freshman Frankie Durate.
