LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. — To the surprise of every Los Alamitos High School student, the fire alarm rang on April 1 and was triggered by a real fire, signaling that, for the first time ever, the unreliable fire alarms actually work. 

When the alarm rang for the third time this week, English students in Mr. Cliff’s class ignored the open fire, continuing their school work through blaring alarms and flashing lights. Looking up from their work, students were astonished to see flames surrounding the classroom.

“Wait, there’s actually a fire?” Matthew Plonk, one of Mr. Cliff’s students, said.

Students from every class looked up in shock, unable to believe their eyes. Gathering at the windows, wide-eyed students watched as the Performing Arts Center went down in flames. Griffins were stunned at the development of a fire at LAHS, and the fact that the smoke alarm had worked. 

Everyone heard the beginning of the PA system and the exasperated voice starting the alarm announcement. However, it cut off unexpectedly due to the realization that the fire was, for once, real.  

Thankfully, nobody was hurt in the fire or the stampede of kids fleeing campus, and everyone was successfully evacuated after they finished ignoring the alarm and gawking.
