LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. — Pop star Olivia Rodrigo has announced her long-awaited third album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, with an album cover that shows Rodrigo laughing on a swing in a pink button-down dress amidst a sunny sky.

The album’s title has shocked many people as she’s deviating from her typical four-letter album names that she had with her freshman and sophomore albums, “Sour” and “GUTS.” Before the announcement, fans were expecting album names such as “Sour,” “Luck” and maybe the most popular one, “Sweet.”

“I really like her music. But, I don’t know. This album seems really different from all the other ones,” said Los Alamitos High School freshman Isha Sajil.

The album, debuting June 12, was announced on Rodrigo’s Instagram and now has accompanying vinyls, cassette tapes, t-shirts, sweaters and lounge wear available for pre-order.

Many speculate that this newest album is taking on a theme of heartbreak inspired by her breakup with actor Louis Partridge, known for his appearance in the Netflix movie series “Enola Holmes.” The pair had been dating for nearly two years and were rumored to have broken up around Dec. 2025. Sources close to the couple have said that their careers and schedules made it difficult to maintain a healthy relationship.

“I honestly feel like this album is going to be different from the others and I’m curious to see what she has in store for us,” said freshman Isabella Sarabia.

Now, her latest album may give some insight into her former relationship. The title has led many fans to believe that Rodrigo felt trapped in what many onlookers believed was a perfect relationship, once again turning attention towards the pressure of the public eye.

Ever since the finale of the GUTS world tour in Aug. 2025, supporters have been excited for her newest album, and on April 1, Rodrigo deleted all of her Instagram posts, making people assume that she must be preparing to announce what they hoped would be an album; they were right!

Along with the change to her social media, Rodrigo also updated her font and logo in March, marking what appeared to be a new era for the songwriter. The new font included a handwritten and bubbly style text with hearts, along with a soft pink and lavender color palette, a stark contrast to the vibrance of the purple and other deeper tones from her GUTS era.

Overall, it appears that Rodrigo is focusing on a softer, more heartbroken tone and aesthetic than with past albums, marking a potential stylistic shift for the star.

As of now, Rodrigo has not yet announced any song names, but hopefully, fans will get a single or music video soon.
