The Kona Ice was a great cool off from the hot day.

LOS ALAMITOS, CA — On Wednesday, March 21, after school, freshmen were invited to a Kona Ice truck in the 700s building parking lot where the first 100 freshmen would receive free shaved ice. Los Alamitos High School’s Link Crew organized this event to help the freshmen feel more welcome. The cold treat went well with the sunny weather, making it a great event for the day!

“I think it’s a great opportunity for freshmen,” said Rileigh Kennedy, a freshman. “It’s a nice, hot day, so it’s good for ice.”

Link Crew organizes many events like this to help freshmen socialize with each other and make friends, such as orientation, study sessions before finals, and a football game tailgate.

“This is an event specifically put on for freshmen,” said Mr. Hong, a Link Crew teacher coordinator, “so that we make sure they feel welcomed, cared for, and important.”

Link Crew is made up of upperclassmen who are looking to enhance freshmen’s first year at Los Al. They arrange events throughout the school year to make sure freshmen feel cared for and included in school culture.

“The Kona Ice is for the freshmen and to have everybody come over there and get to know each other,” said Kaylin Steward, a Link Crew leader.

The Kona Ice has been an annual event by Link Crew for the past two years. Hopefully they will continue to host this fun activity for freshmen in future years.

Link Crew has and will continue to put on fun events for freshmen to make their high school experience even better! The Kona Ice truck is just a small part of what Link Crew does to help Los Al school spirit stay high.
