LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. — Over 260 students were recognized for their achievements at the Los Alamitos Unified School District Office on Tuesday, April 21. LAHS has had a great year in academics, athletics, arts and activities. LAHS Principal. Kraus started by establishing this year’s academic achievements, which included the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress testing results. In the topic of academic excellence, Principal Kraus shared some statistics with the board. Highlights included a 90% Advanced Placement passing rate. Shortly after, administrators started giving out the academic awards.

After they announced the students who qualified for the National Merit, Mrs. Vienna discussed College, Career & Career and Technical Education Excellence, which included over 70 college representatives that visited LAHS and the 11 different field trips to colleges and CTE pathways. She also announced the North Orange County Regional Occupational Program Employee of the Year, LAHS’s Fire Tech teacher, Mr. Weatherman. Mrs. Vienna proceeded to recognize 15 students as Eagle Scouts and Gold Award recipients.
After all of the academic recognitions, LAHS Assistant Principal Mr. Hyepock went up to the podium to acknowledge athletic achievements, which included the 45 National Letter of Intent Signees and over 23 California Interscholastic Federation (C.I.F.) Playoff Qualifying teams. Mr. Berger went up to shout out the LAHS Football and Soccer teams, respectively.
Mrs. Lavache, shortly after, discussed the success of this year’s club popularity with 132 clubs on campus before segwaying to Arts Excellence. She recognized the LAHS Show Choir programs, Sound FX and SoundTrax, as well as congratulating Lunah Vazquez for winning the Best Soloist Award. The LAHS Drama Program was also recognized for competing at several competitions, as well as the Orange County Artists of the Year featuring Sean Massoumi, Christopher Blocher and Aaron Myers. Mrs. Yoshihara-Ha was awarded the Los Alamitos Education Foundation Teacher of the Year.
“We just have so much and none of it happens in isolation,” said LAUSD board member Dr. Pulver. “LAHS is a place and home for every kid.”
All of the students who were recognized for their achievements are the pinnacle of the LAHS representation and help put us on the map. Be proud, Griffins!
