LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. — On Saturday, Feb. 7, Los Alamitos High School Griffins got hyped for this year’s Winter Formal. This year’s WOFO took place at Hangar 21 South in Fullerton and was an evening filled with dancing and laughter.
The venue was transformed into a glamorous New York scene inspired by Gossip Girl. Inside and outside the hangar, decorations reflected the theme. The most impressive part of the decor was the scenes from the show and elements of New York life that surrounded the hangar. Many students loved the location, but some found the dance floor too big and open.
“The venue was very cool with the airplanes and decorations, but it did feel very spread out compared to other years,” said a senior at LAHS.
The dance floor stayed packed all evening thanks to the DJ. From rap to pop, the music had everyone singing along and dancing. The DJ even played the popular TikTok song “Doot Doot,” which had the crowd putting their hands up for the “67” trend. Students danced in groups, formed circles and even crowd-surfed the prince. For most of the night, students vibed to the songs, but there were a few that many Griffins did not recognize.
“The DJ was my favorite part of the dance. For the most part, I knew all the songs, but some I had never heard,” said a sophomore at LAHS.
Beyond the dance floor, a variety of games were offered. Students competed in pool and air hockey, enjoying friendly competition. There were also casino-style games, which gave students the opportunity to gamble without risking any money. These activities allowed students to take a break from the lively dance floor.
Another popular spot was the photo booth. Students stepped into one of three inflatable booths with friends to take photos. They posed with props ranging from hats to signs. The pictures gave Griffins a keepsake to remember this year’s Winter Formal.
Desserts and drinks were available throughout the evening, giving students a chance to grab a treat. The refreshments were displayed on decorated tables that matched the “Night in New York” theme.
At 9 p.m., the court was announced for this year’s WOFO.
The night ended with Nicki Minaj’s “Starships,” concluding this year’s Winter Formal. Overall, WOFO was a night filled with dancing, laughter and memories the Griffins will hold dear
