We arrived at ROP Fire Technology as they began their skills stations for the day. Students practiced knots, harness-tying, suiting up and securing patients in stokes baskets. Regional Occupational Program classes are uniquely designed to prepare students to enter the labor force immediately after graduation. Fire tech serves as a standalone class, but students who take EMR and EMT can earn their paramedic license upon graduation. Mr. Weatherman, the Fire Tech teacher, is in charge of making sure the students are performing their assigned tasks correctly and guiding them in the right direction. He has been a certified paramedic since 2011.
