LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. — Los Alamitos High School Show Choir kicked off its “Let There Be Joy” Holiday Show beginning in December. From Dec. 4-6, the LAHS Choir delivered magical and enchanting performances on the stage in the Performing Arts Center. With the annual shows, groups Sound FX, Soundtrax, Connexion, Xquisite, Axcent, Xtreme and Xpressions performed two festive acts to stun their audience.

As soon as you walk into the PAC, friendly staff in their Christmas attire greet audience members and escort them to their seats. The hallways inside were decorated with white frosted Christmas trees and festive poka dots covering the walls, making me already feel the holiday spirit.

“It felt really good to hear everybody’s excitement for the holiday show,”  said Scarlett Valdez, a LAHS sophomore, after the performance.

The first song of Act One was “Let There Be Joy/Joy to the World,” sung by all choirs and soloist Kensington Nelson. Throughout the first act, light-hearted songs such as “Stretchy Pants,” “The 12 Days of Christmas,” “The Happy Elf,” “Turkey Lurkey Time” and “Holiday Inn” filled the room with laughter and liveliness.

“I really enjoyed the 12 Days of Christmas. It’s super funny and every time has me laughing,” said Addison Price, a LAHS senior.

The LAHS choir did a fantastic job incorporating both traditional and humorous Christmas songs, such as “The 12 Days of Christmas.” Sung by Nicholas Allen, Luke Beyma, Julius Cedeno, Jayden Euzarraraz, Elias Fraytet, Anthony Garcia, Justin Hermosura, Dylan Lobo, Cody McKenzie, Noah McKenzie, Devin Medina and Arron Myers, the crowd was roaring with cheers and giggles from the chaotic, but hilarious song.

“My favorite song was 12 Days because it’s just very silly and a classic from two years ago,” said Arron Myers, another LAHS senior.

Act Two began with the Frozen section, as Xpressions and featured soloists Maddie Diggie and Emily Gale took the stage as playing the Frozen sisters, Anna and Elsa. Songs performed from the movies like “Let it Go,” “Love is an Open Door,” “For the First Time in Forever,” “Vuelie / Let the Sun Shine On” and “Reindeers Are Better Than People.”

The second-to-last song was LAHS’s traditional “Hallelujah” Chorus, which has been sung at every Holiday Show since 1984, during which the staff invited alumni from the audience onto the stage to perform with the choir.

“The show was fantastic. The energy was super high, and overall the show just went great,” said Price.

The final song of the night, “Put a Little Love in Your Heart,” was performed and danced by all choirs. The soloists amazed the crowd as the LAHS show choir danced around the PAC, holding up hearts, saying thank you and waving goodbye to their audience.
