LOS ALAMITOS, CA — Halloween is around the corner. I love seeing everyone’s creative costumes and the way communities come together. It is a chance to step into a different world and become someone or something else for the night. Plus, it is a great excuse to let your imagination run wild and to show off your unique style. Costumes come in many different themes and topics. Some turn out amazing, but some turn out the complete opposite.

When it comes to costumes, the options are endless! Trendy costumes are all about capturing the spirit of the moment and embracing the latest pop culture crazes. One popular trend I think is going to be overused this year is Barbie; ever since the “Barbie” movie came out it has been increasing in popularity, so I can imagine a lot of people showing up to school on Halloween dressed as characters from the movie. Another trendy costume that has been worn numerous times over the past few years and will most likely be seen this year is a prisoner. I have seen both boys and girls wearing baggy orange jumpsuits and covered in fake tattoos.

Sophomore Paige Rodriguez shared her opinion on what she predicts will be big this year.

“A costume that is going to be seen a lot this year is inspired by Taylor Swift. A lot of my friends are going as different Taylor Swift albums,” she said. “One is going as the ‘Midnight’ album and is going to wear dark colors with a ton of sparkles. Another one is going as the ‘Lover’ album and is going in a pink fluffy dress.”

Halloween costumes offer a canvas for self-expression, allowing us to explore different versions of ourselves. Some people choose to dress as spine-chilling creatures while others stick to the more mundane. Some of the scariest costumes are people who wear their normal clothes and those creepy masks from Spirit Halloween. Also, there is just something about ghillie suits that freaks me out.

Sophomore Macie Davanon shared her belief in the scariest Halloween costume.

“The scariest Halloween costumes that haunted me when I was little and still haunt me to this day are dolls, especially Annabelle,” Davanon said. “At the Hyatt Hotel in Long Beach, an Annabelle and Chucky doll chased my friend and me up the stairs.”

In my opinion, some costumes should be forbidden, yet people still wear them. This includes anything anime because the outfits are very distracting. Amazon inflatable costumes because they are very spacious and overall annoying to be around. And especially the M&M costumes; they are usually worn in big groups, but they are B-A-S-I-C. It is not even a costume, it’s just a T-shirt with the letter “M” on it.

Sophomore Ahmari Parker shared his opinion on costumes people should never wear.

“I suggest for people not to be ‘themselves’- when people think they are too cool to not wear a costume it’s embarrassing for them because they are missing out on the fun. People should also never wear anything that has a tail,” he said.

Halloween costumes offer people a reason to connect and express themselves. From homemade creations that showcase our creativity to scary outfits that embrace the thrill of fear, funny costumes that bring laughter, and original costumes that stand out, the possibilities are endless. By exploring your options, you can find the perfect Halloween costume that reflects your personality, preferences, and desired level of creativity. Have an amazing Halloween, Los Al!
