The Benadryl Challenge

LOS ALAMITOS, CA — Recently, the Benadryl challenge on TikTok has been under the spotlight because it had taken the life a young 13 year old boy. The challenge involves an individual taking a profuse amount of the drug in an attempt at seeing hallucinations.

Benadryl is an over the counter drug that can help remedy allergic effects and cold symptoms. By taking more than the recommended amount, people can experience effects like seizures, heart complications, and even death. On CNN, an account from the FDA took action with TikTok

“The FDA’s 2020 warning contacted TikTok and strongly urged them to remove the videos from their platform and to be vigilant to remove additional videos that may be posted”

The effect of the Benadryl TikTok Challenge on the youth is deeply concerning. Dangerous behavior and substance abuse among young individuals is encouraged. This trend can influence them to experiment with drugs or engage in risky behaviors without fully understanding the potential consequences. The promotion of such hazardous challenges on TikTok exposes young people to significant physical harm and affects their overall well-being. The need to educate the youth on these health risks is paramount.

Montana’s TikTok Ban

Recently, the state of Montana has placed a ban on TikTok in an attempt to curb Chinese Communist Party (CCP) influence on American citizens through the app. This issue has been prevalent and the United States have been on this subject since the Trump administration. On CNN, an interview with the Governor of Montana gave his reason as to why TikTok was banned.

“Governor Greg Gianforte tweeted that he has banned TikTok in Montana “to protect Montanans’ personal and private data from the Chinese Communist Party,” officially making it the first state to ban the social media application.”

In 2020, the Trump administration had made banning TikTok a big focal point in Congress. Pro-ban individuals argued that the app is a danger to U.S. security and should be removed from the country all together. Anti-ban individuals argued that the app provides a platform for people that create a livelihood on the app.

Whether this TikTok ban will cause more states to join in is yet to be determined. However, may lead towards removing dangerous trends like the Benadryl challenge away from influencing the youth.
