LOS ALAMITOS, CA – The season of spring begins in March and spans through the months of April and May. However, many spring sports at Los Alamitos High School started its seasons or started practicing as early as January. Some of these spring sports include baseball, softball, lacrosse, boys’ tennis, and boys’ volleyball.

Boys’ tennis has not yet begun. Their first game will be on March 16, and will continue to practice in their preseason. They have a preseason game on Feb. 9.

Lacrosse has also been warming up before their season, which starts Feb. 11. Girls’ varsity and boys’ JV both have games on Feb 13. Girls’ JV has their first game on Feb. 17, and boys’ varsity has a game two days before on Feb. 15.

Los Al’s baseball team started their season strong. Their first game was on Jan. 13 against Cypress High School, and our Varsity Griffins won 5-2. The season is going incredibly well with Frosh, JV, and Varsity winning games against the likes of Cypress High School and Gahr High School. Unfortunately, JV suffered a loss against Cypress on the last day of January, but hopes are high for their next game. This upcoming Saturday, Feb. 11, the team is going against Palos Verdes High School at 11 a.m.

Girls’ volleyball ended as winners in December. The team had a good season, and it is expected that the boys’ volleyball team, whose season began in January, will uphold the Los Al volleyball team’s reputation. With four teams competing in the Sunset League, these boys have a bright future ahead of them. Their next game will be on Feb. 18 at Tesoro High School.

With their first game of the season on Jan. 23, softball started bright and early. Frosh and Varsity have games on Feb. 11 against Orange Lutheran High School and Norco High School, respectively. JV has the second game of the season on Feb 9. against Canyon High School.

These sports have kicked off with a great start, and it’s no wonder, considering how well last semester’s athletics went. The teams are hopeful and eager to have a wonderful season. Attend any of these games and future ones to support our amazing Griffins!
