LOS ALAMITOS, CA— Tuesday, May 30 marks the start of the last week for the Los Alamitos High School class of 2023. Tuesday is also the last regular school for the seniors. On Wednesday and Thursday, seniors take the last finals of their high school careers. Thursday is their last day on campus. In the evening, they come back on campus for baccalaureate. Then on Friday, they kick off their senior activities by visiting their elementary schools (article about senior activities here).

ASB announced last week’s dress-out days, specifically for seniors for these last few days. On Tuesday, seniors sported  college gear from the schools that they will be attending in the fall.

Wednesday, seniors are supposed to wear the Los Al senior shirt, which has been available for purchase at the activities office. This year’s design parodied vintage In-N-Out.

Finally, on Thursday, seniors are to wear their Los Al spirit wear one last time: “Once a Griffin, always a Griffin,” said the @losalofficial Instagram account.

On Monday, May 29, ASB put up the senior college wall, which is composed of several large posters listing seniors and their corresponding college. The posters are hung up on the gym, where the large Griffin is painted. This year, however, there were noticeably less submissions than in years past.

ASB’s Instagram account also announced that the senior sunset is tomorrow. All seniors are invited to the south side of the Seal Beach pier at 7 p.m. to watch the sun set. This is a relatively new tradition. At the beginning of the year, some seniors met at the same location in the morning to watch the sunrise; this event, both literally and symbolically, mirrors that one.

As all the senior classes prepare for their finals, they also begin their tear-jerking and bittersweet farewells.

Mrs. Franzen, who teaches Modern Literature, likes to end her year by having all of her seniors say their post-high school plans—what colleges, trade-schools, or work plans await for them after they graduate.

The Griffin Gazette gives a warm congratulations to all the graduates for all the hard work and dedication they put in.
