Cocoa & Cram
Freshmen and mentors join together for studying, snacks, and fun
December 19, 2022
LOS ALAMITOS, CA – Link Crew at Los Alamitos High School have traditionally only governed the freshmen orientation but this year they are doing a lot more. On December 15, 2022, all freshmen were invited to participate in the Cocoa and Cram event held in the lecture hall.
“It is to help freshmen prepare for the workload that comes with finals and review for subjects they are having trouble with,” Aleina Tuufuli, a member of Link Crew, said.
Studying is especially important in the coming week due to finals. Freshmen have never experienced high school finals so, with their mentors, they are given the opportunity to study hard while being provided with snacks and hot chocolate. Not only was there music and homework, but there was also an ugly holiday sweater contest! Whoever wore the most atrocious holiday sweater won!
“Link Crew is helping the freshmen study for their finals, Jane Jenkins, leader of the event, said. Even though it’s stressful it can be managed and there are people here to help them. People can show teachers appreciation by writing a message and showing a little holiday cheer with a candy cane.
“I feel excited. I am happy for them that they have a support system like this because we didn’t get this our freshmen year,” Jane said.
The lecture hall was able to hold many freshmen, eager for finals to end. One freshman, Kate Schumacher, said she was studying for her finals. “I feel like I need it and it was engaging for friends and for people to help me,” Schumacher said, “it’s very helpful and I feel like they can help me if I need it.”
The Cocoa & Cram event was a fun-filled experience to study, practice, and eat right before finals. The Link crew always does a great job. They are there if any of the freshmen have any questions while making the environment positive and stress-free
