LOS ALAMITOS, CA — Our very own Los Alamitos High School’s  Model United Nations team went to New York to participate in EmpireMUNC, the ninth iteration of New York University’s student-run MUN conference offered to high school students. They offered the General Assembly and Crisis Committee. The Los Al United Nation team won four awards with Liam Fallon and Kaitlyn Mady winning Best Delegate and Ryan Ramirez and Dana Kim winning Outstanding.

What is General Assembly and Crisis Committee?

General Assembly is where students represent a country and tackle global issues from the country’s perspective. EmpireMUNC offered topics ranging from addressing organized crime to solutions in rebuilding Syria. This aims to mimic the General Assembly within the official United Nations. Crisis Committee on the other hand, is a little more unique. Crisis leaves room for creativity. EmpireMUNC had many historical fictional topics like the Italian Unification of the 19th century and “The United Nations of Earth 2300” where delegates had to navigate the unknowns of space and ensure humanity’s prosperity on a new frontier.

Unforgettable experiences

Outside of MUN, our team had a blast. Fantastic food options everywhere like New York pizza and deli sandwiches were hard to resist. The tour to the official United Nations headquarters and visiting locations like Central Park, the Brooklyn Bridge, and Times Square surely gave everyone an experience of a lifetime.

Award recipient Liam Fallon described the trip as “unforgettable and a great time.”
