LOS ALAMITOS, CA — Over the week of Nov. 3 through Nov. 6, the Los Alamitos High School Dance Program performed “Street Symphony.” The first performance started on Wednesday at 4:30, while the others continued through Saturday starting at 7 pm.

The show opened with a rock dance number, with the dancers sporting glittery costumes. The main female lead, Amanda Perry, played by Sophia Papageorges, started off strong by lip-syncing “Get Down” from the musical “Six,” which features Genesis Lynea. Cody, played by Benny Nottonson, was the male lead.

Olivia Inanaga appeared onstage periodically as a radio host to update the audience on what was going on.

The show included dances to many popular songs such as “The Edge of Glory” by Lady Gaga, “Take Me to Church” by Hozier, and “Happy” by Pharrell Williams. Intermediate dance, in kitchen staff costumes, entered towards the beginning as the “Cassirollers,” with a creative parody to “Beat It,” by Michael Jackson.

“Street Symphony” aligned with the story of Snow White. Diana Vale (the Evil Queen), played by Tessa Meider, makes an appearance mid-show and causes more issues for Perry. Vale used to be the most popular singer until Perry appeared and tried to make music free for everyone.

Vale, jealous that Perry is taking over her spot as the most popular singer, hires multiple gangs to steal her equipment and kidnap Perry in an effort to ruin her show. Each gang was showcased in a themed dance. Due to Amanda’s kidnapping, the dance that follows had a dark mood.

“It’s been pretty tiring preparing for the show as a whole, but it was definitely worth it in the end!” said Sarah Yoon, a sophomore on the Lyra.

Towards the end, Vale confronts Perry and they engage in an eye-catching fight scene where the two sides clash.

The show ends with Los Al dancers, acting as the audience, taking away Vale, who surfs through the audience while Perry is able to finally host her concert.

Beginning, Intermediate 1, 2, and 3, and Advanced Dance were all part of this show. The Los Al dance program had been preparing for the dance show for the past few months since the start of school.

For Meider, playing the Queen of Rock and Roll has been amazing and really fun. However, being one of the leads in this show, she had some extra rehearsals and stayed late to get ready for the performances.

“I’ve been so excited to perform this week and show off all of the hard work we’ve put in,” said Meider following the week before the shows.

After watching it, the audience can certainly see that that the hard work has paid off.

“I had a great time at the show and enjoyed the exciting music, costumes, lights, and choreography,” said a sophomore at Los Al.

The dance show was a must-see success for anyone who had the opportunity to go. Los Al can’t wait to see what the next dance show will bring.
