LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. — On Oct. 21, Los Alamitos High School’s orchestra will visit McGaugh Elementary School for their first concert of the school year. The Fall Orchestra Concert will feature student costumes and a variety of music genres, spanning classical, pop and soundtracks.
The fall show includes well-known classical songs, as well as pop culture songs from artists like Ariana Grande, the Kpop Demon Hunters soundtrack and the Harry Potter movies. Students will also dress up for the show, with each section having a costume theme.
“People should go to see us all dressed up in Halloween costumes,” Principal Viola Senior Hana Huynh said. “Each section wears something different and it’s definitely so much fun!”
With this being the first show of the year, students are both excited and nervous to perform; for the seniors, this show is bittersweet.
“I’m so excited for the first concert, but so sad because this will be my last first concert since I’m a senior,¨ Huynh said. “I love the people and the community orchestra gives me. I’m so close with everyone and we really feel like family. I also love performing and playing my instrument because I’ve played for so long.”
Despite the nerves, many students look forward to the show. Senior Tyler Bragg, the vice president of Orchestra, is excited to show how much the class has improved and practice pieces for future concerts.
“I’m super excited to show everybody what we’ve been working on and how much we’ve grown as an ensemble,” Bragg said, “We have some super exciting pieces picked out that are perfect for Halloween. This will also be our first time performing our main piece for the year, John Rutter’s Suite for Strings, which we will perform later this year at Segerstrom Hall.”
