LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. — As the new assistant curriculum principal in charge of testing, instruction and technology, Mrs. Reyes is determined to live up to the Los Alamitos Unified School District mission statement, “Igniting possibilties in academics, athletics, activities and the arts.” Before coming to LAHS, she worked as an English teacher, and she also held two assistant principal roles at the El Segundo and San Pedro High Schools. Now a member of the Griffin community, she is excited to work in a broader school environment.
“There is something for everyone, whether it’s a club or a sport. Los Alamitos is a very welcoming and inclusive environment,” Mrs. Reyes said.
Having studied at the University of California, Santa Barbara, she completed her undergraduate degree in political science. Following her graduation from UCSB, she earned her master’s degree in education and administration at Loyola Marymount University. She is currently working towards a doctorate at the University of Southern California.
For her first year at LAHS, Mrs. Reyes is excited to get to know the students and staff and is looking forward to becoming involved in the athletics and arts on the Griffin campus.
“In the way the school assists students and seeing the four pathways, the amount of clubs, activities, and pathways truly shows Los Alamitos is living out their mission statement,” she said.
Outside of school, Mrs. Reyes enjoys spending time with her daughter. She also loves to read; one of her favorite books is “Siddhartha” by Herman Hesse, as she explained that the book helped change her way of thinking and of life. She also enjoys debating and journalism.
Mrs. Reyes shared loves getting the opportunity to greet students in the morning. She has not had too many personal interactions with students in person yet, but she is looking forward to meeting more of the student body.
“(Mrs. Reyes) is known for her collaborative spirit, strong leadership, and unwavering belief in student potential. We are thrilled to have Mrs. Reyes join our Griffin family,” said LAHS Principal Mrs. Kraus.
