LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. — LAHS’ dance program presented us with a stunning show in the first week of May. The all-original story-line was a fun and heartwarming story about friendship and self-acceptance.

Layla Miller, played by LAHS senior Gracie Adame, was stuck in a time loop full of bad fortunes. From her phone getting destroyed, being late to class and failing a pop quiz, her dance audition flopping and even her boyfriend cheating on her. After she walked through a red door that appeared randomly, Layla repeated the day and found herself trying to make it run smoothly; she attempted to try and change the type of person she is, in order to escape. From being overly nice to full of anger; this, of course, does not work out in her favor. She realizes that being jealous of others is not going to get her anywhere and just decides to be herself.

“It was nice to see those who flourished, and especially nice to see the beginners grow,” said LAHS dance teacher Mrs. Jones.

The dance program’s sheer commitment, dedication and drive that went into this show is truly inspiring. Countless hours of practice and technique and several rehearsals, all paid off in the end with the amount of positive feedback from the audience. Colorful and visually pleasing sets added to the mood of the unfolding story.

“Joining dance has been one of the best decisions I have ever taken in my life; it gets hard and stressful, but in the end, the pain, tears, sweat, and soreness is so worth it,“ Edianyz Leon, a LAHS junior said.

The aerial dancers in this show stood out as one of the highlights of the entire show. The impressive set design and elements, such as the ring and curtains, checked all the boxes for a very visually stunning set.

“Being a part of this dance show, and just this program in general, has given me so many new friendships and connections with people. It truly is a surreal experience being able to be a part of something so fun and emotional,” said LAHS junior Rhiannon Carlson.

Many loved the show and it will be an event that they will fondly look back on. This was the final performance for seniors and four-year long dance members as LAHS. They definitely made it a memorable show!
