LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. – Halloween is unarguably one of the most popular holidays. People decorate their houses, dress up in awesome costumes and eat candy. Whether you’re staying inside, watching horror movies, or out trick-or-treating, there are many ways to have fun on this celebration. Some might think Halloween only happens one night a year, but what if there was a way to celebrate your favorite holiday once again? That, my friend with good holiday taste, is what “Summerween” is all about.
Based on the popular TV show “Gravity Falls,” Summerween is the second celebration of Halloween. In real life, it’s more so a trend, so no, it isn’t necessarily a “real holiday.” It’s a fictional fest. However, it is a fun excuse to celebrate your favorite holiday twice a year! In the show, the specific day of Summerween is June 22, but in real life, the celebration is very broad, and you can celebrate it any day in the summer.
The trend of celebrating Summerween was popularized on TikTok. In the original video, the creator @hauntina celebrates a party hosted by @finalgirljess, where they do summer activities like barbecuing and swimming in the pool, but they make each activity Halloween-themed. After this video got 3.4 million views, many creators started using the audio on videos of their own with Halloween-themed picnics and movies, including a video created by @visitsalem that shows the infamous city of Salem, Massachusetts, celebrating Halloween in the summer.
For those looking to participate, there are countless activities, including making Jack–o–Melons like in Gravity Falls, projecting Halloween movies in your backyard, or telling scary stories around a fire. If you love Halloween and miss it when it’s over, I highly recommend having a Summerween celebration.
