LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. – Do you enjoy learning about Greek mythology, seeing coastal views and traveling far away? Los Alamitos High School teachers are hosting their annual spring break trip to Athens and six other Greek islands. The “Mythical & Magical Greece” trip is an extraordinary opportunity for students to get away and explore during their break.
The registration information for the trip was released on Aug. 28, and the spots available are quickly filling up. This enthralling journey will take students on many adventures to allow them to explore the history of Greece while also admiring the clear waters and summery vibe of the islands.
The carefully crafted itinerary begins in Athens, Greece, where students will visit world-famous monuments such as the Acropolis and Parthenon, explore the shopping scene and experience the unique culture of Greece through traditional dance.
Next, the group will travel to several Greek islands. Students will take in the picture-perfect nature of the beaches and towns on Paros. Then, they will embrace Greek culture through mythology and cuisine by visiting the birthplace of Apollo and Artemis on Delos and take a Greek cooking class on Mykonos. In Santorini, students will enjoy black sand beaches, thermal pools and the iconic white buildings with blue dome-shaped roofs.
Ms. Kibtya, Ms. Whitfield and Mrs. Franzen have worked tirelessly to craft amazing plans for the upcoming trip and are so excited to watch students experience a variety of new things overseas.
“It’s really exciting for me to have that outside of school, bonding with them and getting to do all the things like history, food, dance, culture (and) language,” Ms. Whitfield said.
These experienced teachers have made plans and will take important measures to ensure every student has a good time and remains safe throughout the trip.
“We explain to them things to watch out for pickpocketing (and) how to pack well, so that you don’t stick out as some(one)… to rob,” Ms. Whitfield said.
Ms. Whitfield guaranteed that students always make lots of memories on the trip. She feels that shared experiences create great memories and bonds between people that will often last a lifetime.
“There’s so much of your mind and your world that expands when you travel. You see things through a different lens when you travel abroad. You understand other people. You have more empathy,” Ms. Whitfield said. “You have a better understanding of things that are happening outside of your American bubble, and I think it’s a really good part of your education to travel the world.”
Although this is not an education-based trip, travel is a great way for students to expand their knowledge of different cultures and places.
