LOS ALAMITOS, CA – On Thursday, June 2, 2023 senior students walked the hallways of their elementary schools. Every year students, wear their caps and gowns and reunite with their old teachers. Students in grades TK through fifth surround the grass along the main hallways to watch 12th grade students celebrate the end of their Los Alamitos Unified School District journey.

Most students have been in LAUSD since kindergarten, or even as early as TK, and have spent the majority of their school years in either Weaver, Hopkinson, Rossmoor, McGaugh, Lee, or Los Alamitos Elementary.

“It was an amazing opportunity and I’m really glad that our school gives us this opportunity to go visit our old teachers,” said senior Vivian Tsai. “It was surprising because some of them recognized me.”

Los Al has been practicing this tradition for over ten years and is an activity many students anticipate. This event is optional, and not all students participate for a variety of reasons. Some students lived out of district for elementary school or were simply too tired after a long week of activities, with more to come the next week.

Elementary school visitations are typically held the day after seniors last day of school. This event is followed by plenty of other senior activities such as a car parade, baccalaureate, senior sunset, and of course, graduation.

Seniors were even able to mess around on the playgrounds and have some fun before entering the next chapter of their lives. Students get to experience the bittersweet experience of bringing back their childhood memories before graduation. After nearly seven years, seniors are able to see how much of their previous school has changed and what has stayed the same over time.

While the end of senior year is already packed with activities, elementary school visits are always a wholesome and memorable experience to look back on all the years they spent at that school, and is a moment many cherish and will never forget.
