LOS ALAMITOS, CA Trends are certainly a crucial part of modern society. There have always been styles or items that have been very popular for a while, only to be forgotten. This can be seen in many facets, such as clothing, music, film, etc. In recent years many past trends have returned to prominence in both American culture and worldwide culture.

Fashion is one of the easiest topics to look for trends in. In recent years there have been plenty of different trends to rock the world of fashion. One trend that has made a return in the past few months has been the late 90s and early 2000s. The style referred to as Y2K has become very popular, thanks in large to Gen Z. An article by TheCoolist cites the reasoning for the comeback as nostalgia for a time that seemed easier compared to the political and social chaos of the modern day.

One trend in music that has been making a big comeback in recent years is vinyl records. Whether it be for the higher sound quality or for the aesthetics a record holds, this classic form of music listening has been growing rapidly. According to an article by Rolling Stone, for the first time since 1987 vinyl records had more sales than normal CDs with over 41 million records sold last year, earning over $1.2 billion. While this is still nothing compared to streaming it is still an indication that people are more invested in records than they have been in a long time.

The film industry is another area where trends are easy to spot. One of the most prominent trends of the past decade has been superhero movies, something that was once popular in the 1980s. The slash horror genre is having a new burst of popularity. New installments to classic franchises like Halloween, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Scream have made the slasher genre a cornerstone in the film industry once again.

The cyclical return of trends allows people to experience nostalgia and explore classic ideas with a modern lens, creating something new out of something classic. While some trends don’t last for very long, the constant changing of popular styles allows for new ideas and prevents life from being stale.
