LOS ALAMITOS, CA – Nutritious and delicious food is served for lunch every day at Los Alamitos High School. This is overseen by Los Al’s Chef Kevin, whose background in culinary arts ensures that students are well-fed. Chef Kevin has recently been awarded the Classified School Employee of the Year award to celebrate all he has done for the students of Los Al.

The California School Recognition Program (CSRP), run by the California Department of Education (CDE), has numerous programs to commend schools and school employees. The CSRP most awards California schools with the National Blue Ribbon School Program. They are responsible for the Classified Employee of the Year award.

Chef Kevin has been the head chef of Los Al’s cafeteria for years and has established himself as a beloved member of the Los Al community. Students all across campus hold a positive opinion on Chef Kevin because his amiable personality shines through every day.

The meals fed to students reflect his extensive knowledge and experience regarding food preparation, as well as his devotion to nutritionally supporting students. Students and staff across campus respect Chef Kevin for his genuine and kind nature. For this, his colleagues had surprised him with the award when he came to work one day.

“I was happy, but I don’t do this for awards” Chef Kevin said.

Chef Kevin explained that he dealt with the dilemma of being humble and accepting praise. He carries the same sincere attitude toward the award that helped him earn it. He is appreciative of the award but feels that accepting it defeats the purpose of his reasons for his work. He is motivated solely by his passion for what he does. Nonetheless, he is thankful for his staff members.

“I just do it because I love it” Chef Kevin said.

Since his first day at Los Al, Chef Kevin has enriched the school with his dedicated work and affable disposition. He truly cares about his job, the staff, and the students. The award recognizes his current achievements, but we eagerly look forward to the great things Chef Kevin will accomplish in the future.
