LOS ALAMITOS, CA — The sequel to mystery-thriller movie “Knives Out” was a smash hit in theaters. “The Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery,” was released in select theaters for only one week, earning a respectable 13 to 15 million dollars. It will be released to the general populace on Netflix on Dec. 23, 2022.

The plot revolves around the character Miles Bron who, in an Agatha Christie-esque move, invites five of his oldest friends to his private island in the Aegean Sea. Contention ensues as he has invited his former business partner, Cassandra “Andi” Brand, with whom the group used to be friends. The other friends are scientist Lionel Toussaint, model-designer Birdie Jay, Michigan governor Claire Debella, and men’s rights influencer Duke Cody. Miles has invited his friends to pass the weekend playing a murder mystery game that he has devised. Benoit Blanc, the star detective, is invited to participate, but, as the story develops, the circumstances regarding his invitation become a mystery in itself.

The sequel features yet another star-studded cast with actors including Leslie Odom Jr. as Lionel, Kate Hudson as Birdie, Edward Norton as Miles, Kathryn Hahn as Claire, Dave Bautista as Duke, and Janelle Monae as Andi. Daniel Craig, known for his role as James Bond, appears for the second time as Benoit Blanc. Surprise cameos from Hugh Grant, Serena Williams, and Natash Lyonne add fun easter eggs for viewers. The film also features the final screen appearances of the late Stephen Sondheim and Angela Lansbury.

While “Knives Out” was a wonderful gateway into the world of Benoit Blanc, the second movie has a much larger scale and is clearly meant to be more playful. The clever humor of the original makes an appearance, especially from Daniel Craig, who seems to be in fine form. Janelle Monae stuns in her role as Andi and clearly displays her breadth as an actor. While the movie’s plot can’t claim to match the succinctness of the first, it still delivers an entirely enjoyable movie. With something for everyone, “Glass Onion” is the perfect film for families as they begin to cozy up for the holidays.

The movie is sure to make many fans huddle into the theater and eagerly wait as the third installment starts production.
