LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. — Taking a look behind the scenes of the fall musical, “The Addams Family”, many students are excited to see this big production make its way to the Los Alamitos High School stage. But how is the cast feeling with the show just around the corner?

“The Addams Family” musical first showed on Broadway back in 2010. This iconic performance generated mixed reviews at first, closing only one year later, in Dec. 2011. Disregarding the varied reviews, the musical still won a 2010 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Lighting Design by Natasha Katz and was nominated for two Tony Awards the same year. The LAHS drama department is now bringing this legendary musical to the Griffin community with shows on Oct. 23, 24 and 25. With the production quickly approaching, the cast has limited time to prepare for the big stage.

“The musical is very fun, but it takes hard work, and in the end, I know the hard work will be worth it. I like the cast and the surroundings. I’ve made so many friends and gained more experiences. I’m also nervous for the show, but more excited because everyone will get to see how much effort we all put into the show,” said Makenzie Turpin, a freshman at LAHS and ensemble member in “The Addams Family”.

Behind the scenes, every member of the cast and crew is working extremely hard to ensure a performance is worthwhile. The time and effort put into the a show like this takes patience and skill.

“This is the second musical I’m choreographing for, it’s really fun since I’ve been wanting to choreograph since I was little. Although I don’t really have free time, I think it’s worth it because I’m with close friends and I’m putting my work on the stage, which is pretty cool. I love the experience and the community, especially since I’m with a lot of my friends and I’m doing what I like to do,” said Rhiannon Carlson, senior and choreographer for the musical.

Taking part in choreographing while being in the musical is a hard task; everyone’s hard work is connected and formed into a spook-tacular show in the end.

“The Addams Family” cast has been preparing themselves for this spooky production, staying in the ghostly mood of the musical while continuing to work hard for a positive outcome. The cast, tech and crew members are all putting in their effort to ensure a seasonal, scary, and thrilling show; so grab your popcorn, take a seat and prepare for this  frightfully silly musical.
