LOS ANGELES, Calif. — On Sept. 14, 2025, the 77th Emmys took place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles and was streamed on Paramount+. Hosted by comedian Nate Bargatze, the evening was an accumulation of charity countdown chaos, three big winners and a nostalgic “girls” reunion.

An award show is not an award show without every recipient’s acceptance speech. Often chaotic and charged with emotion, acceptance speeches are notorious for running over the designated time limit, frequently cutting into the broadcast’s time. This year, the Emmys experimented with a potential solution to this issue.

At the beginning of the show, Bargatze announced he is donating $100,000 to the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. Here’s the catch: his donation will shrink by $1,000 for every second a winner exceeds the 45-second speech limit. Was this effective? Possibly, however, many of the multi-million dollar winners ended up promising to pay the difference. Ultimately, in the end, Bargatze still paid his initial amount.

As for the actual program, the glamorous night had many takeaways. However, three projects had an especially memorable night.

“The Pitt,” streaming now on HBO Max, won the Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series, surpassing “The Last of Us” and “The White Lotus.” “The Pitt” is a new, modern medical drama series taking place in “real time.” Each of the 15 episodes covers one consecutive hour of a singular Monday in a Pittsburgh hospital, highlighting the courage of America’s healthcare workers.

Winning Outstanding Limited/Anthology Series, “Adolescence” came out on top. The psychological drama features the riveting story of 13-year-old Jamie Miller, who has been accused of murdering one of his classmates. Just in four episodes, “Adolescence” seeks to explore the pressure young men face today, from social media and their peers.

Playing the role of Jamie Miller, Owen Cooper (15) won the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor. Cooper is the youngest male ever to receive an Emmy award and expressed his immense gratitude in a moving speech.

Finally, “The Studio” took home the award for Outstanding Comedy Series, along with 12 other Emmys. In 10 episodes on Apple TV+, “The Studio” stars Seth Rogen, playing Matt Remick, the new head of a film production company who feels helpless fighting against the trends of the film industry.

Rogen also won an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. Earlier this year, Rogen sat down with Gentlemen’s Quarterly in an interview discussing “The Studio.” When asked about his relationship with Hollywood, Rogen characterized it as “conflicted.”

“I recognize that it’s afforded me great things. I have the A-plus-plus version of this experience. And I see other people who have the F-minus version. You could be the most talented person there is and never make it,” Rogen said to GQ.

Moving away from the night’s recipients, the show’s award presenters also generated a buzz among viewers. Presenting the award for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series, Alexis Bledel and Lauren Graham reunited on stage prior to their earlier reunion on the red carpet. Graham and Bledel starred together as mother Lorelai Gilmore, and daughter Rory Gilmore, in the iconic 2000s television show “Gilmore Girls,” for seven years.

Walking on stage to the show’s theme song “Where You Lead,” By Carole King, the pair stood on a set replicating their characters’ home in Stars Hollow. The actresses’ timely reunion marks the 25th anniversary of the beloved show and was a fitting kickoff to the fall season.

“It was nostalgic seeing them together and they illustrated that despite the humble origins of the show which later became a worldwide sensation and a symbol of autumn,” Jessica Peng, a senior at Los Alamitos High School said.

With its record-breaking wins, extraordinary fresh talent and the remembrance of older talent, the 77th Emmys had a diverse storyline of its own.
