LOS ALAMITOS, Calif.– This year, the Los Alamitos High School drama department is putting on “The Addams Family” for their fall musical production. Auditions were held on Aug. 21-22, and the cast list was announced on the second night.
“The Addams Family” is a show full of misfits and laughs. The LAHS drama department is excited to create a space where everyone can belong. Whether you’re an audience member or behind the scenes, this show will make you feel all the spooky magic!
“(I feel) nervous but excited to perform such a fun show,” said sophomore Adam FrenchCampbell, who was recently cast as Wednesday Addams.
While they had a total of 57 people audition, many will not get the opportunity to be on stage for this show; however, there are many positions for non-acting roles such as tech crew, costume and set design and more. The stage manager for this production, Quinn Cohen, is already working very hard, as she directs everything that goes onstage, including lighting, sound, costumes, props and actors.
“We had 57 people audition this year and mostly (the roles are) meant for those who are really kind and have a lot of talent and know what they are doing,” Cohen said.
“Wednesday,” a popular TV show focusing on the daughter of the Addams family, just came out with another season. Hopefully, the relevance of both the show and the musical airing at the same time will promote the production and encourage even more Los Alamitos residents to come and support their local theatre community.
“(The TV show) was a huge coincidence, and I think it will (boost ticket sales). I think people who are big ‘Wednesday’ fans will come see the show and maybe they’ll tell their friends about it,” Cohen said.
The musical uses a comedic direction to take on the issues of fitting in, following tradition and family sticking together.
“I hope that everyone who watches it feels close to (the characters) and that it resonates with (the audience),” Cohen said.
Many seniors and upperclassmen are experiencing their last high school theatre season and are excited to end on such a fun note.
“(My hopes for this show are) to have fun and get more (theatre) experience for my last (high school) show,” Laila Rain Montana, a senior who was cast as Alice Beineke, said.
Theatre is overall a welcoming, fun environment, and it is a way to create amazing memories and also share art with the rest of the world. Stay tuned for more information about the “Addams Family” production!
