LOS ALAMITOS, Calif — As children, adults and teens all around the world step out of their homes to pursue the day, many notice that nearly everyone is wearing some form of Adidas or Birkenstock shoes. Consistently, we seem to see a pattern when it comes to shoes. Whether it’s a Birkenstock shoe or an Adidas, these two seem to be all the rage in the community.
Birkenstock’s franchise has been around for almost 250 years, rising in popularity around the 70s. Their fame spiked up during the “hippie” movements, going along with the laid back, casual theme. Then, for about 10 years, Birkenstock’s stock market took a curve for the worse before casually growing back up towards the 90s, fitting the beach and tropical outfits. Ever since then, the shoes have increased in sales and stocks, and have grown to be more popular throughout this generation.
Another very popular, admired shoe in this generation is Adidas. Adidas have been around for 75 years, originally becoming popular in the 60s and 70s. The reason Adidas were so popular around these times was because they were initially created for athletic use and had a cultural impact on the way athletes dressed. However, Adidas have recently started to gain traction again. Everywhere you go, you will undoubtedly see people wearing them, especially teenagers and young adults.
As popular as they are, we also have to ask ourselves the question: are they worth it? Style shouldn’t be the only important thing; the comfort of the shoe matters too.
“My Grand Courts are reliable shoes, and have lasted me about a month; they’re good for skating and comfortable while walking around,” said Caleb Smith, a Los Alamitos High School freshman wearing Grand Court Adidas shoes.
Smith provides a great example of how these shoes are reliable and confirms that they provide a comfortable experience for the person wearing them.
Now we know the reliability of Adidas, but what about Birkenstocks?
“This is my first day of wearing these shoes, but they already have their ups and downs. The shoes are a little bigger, so I have to grip the bottom of the shoe, and the straps don’t fit the shoe properly. Overall, the shoes are good though, they are comfortable, and I bought them because of all the new trends,” Madison Quarry, an LAHS junior wearing Birkenstock Clogs said.
Quarry provided useful information regarding the Birkenstock Clogs, one of the more popular shoes in the world right now. She said the shoes have some flaws, but can be comfortable and seem to be reliable for now.
While both Adidas and Birkenstock may have their flaws, they can be reliable, cute and comfy shoes to have. Now, we don’t have to wonder if these two shoes can be cute, and comfy, all in one.
