LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. – As one of the most anticipated events of the school year, Los Alamitos High School juniors and seniors spent their prom “under the stars” at the California Science Center this past Saturday, May 17. Griffins partied the night away in regal dresses and smart suits, radiating sophistication and celebrating the end of the school year and all that they had accomplished.
“I thought prom was really fun and an overall great experience! I loved hanging out with my friends before and during prom,” said LAHS junior Trent Massey.
Throughout the event, students had the freedom to comfortably move around the large venue space of the science center’s lobby. Walking in, a stage and dance floor occupied the center of the space, with escalators and staircases leading to upper levels and balconies where attendees could take pictures at photo booths, get temporary tattoos and have a caricature portrait done of themselves with friends. There was also plenty of seating available, and a variety of food and drink options. Typical for a prom venue, right?

What may have made this prom night extra memorable was the fact that some exhibits in the Science Center remained open for students to wander around in, including a room on the psychology of fear, an interactive gallery about the origins of life and an exhibit on energy and sound waves. Students meandered through exhibits in their long dresses, high heels, suits and ties, interacting with the features of different displays as if it were just another day at the science center.
“I thought prom was a lot of fun this year! I loved how we could go around the different floors doing the interactive experiences and activities (and) how there was so much to do, but it was spread out enough that it wasn’t all cramped together,” said LAHS junior Mac Eagen.
Ultimately, this year’s prom stood out as being both an energetic and educational night.
Despite recent controversies over the prom court nominations, students who came on Saturday night never experienced a dull moment that ruined the event. All night long, Griffins focused on dancing, laughing, making memories and cheering for their friends who won the titles of the prom court.
It seemed that LAHS students weren’t going to let conflicts and controversies get in their way of having a fun night.
Brixtina Delgado, who was the target of online attacks due to her prom court nomination as a trans student, shared that, even though she didn’t win the title of prom queen, she still experienced an immense amount of support from her fellow Griffins
“The amount of love I felt that night was overwhelming. So many people came up to me to check in, tell me they voted for me, and wish me luck. That support meant the world to me,” Delgado said.
Prom 2025 was certainly memorable, from online conflicts to a scientific twist on a typical high school dance. There may have been ups and downs leading to prom, but students still embraced the night with enthusiasm and joy to make it unforgettable.
