LONG BEACH, Calif. – Located in the heart of downtown Long Beach, Feline Good Social Club offers a relaxing retreat where visitors can unwind in the company of more than 40 friendly and adoptable cats. This cat lounge focuses on creating a comfortable environment for both humans and cats, providing a perfect space for cat lovers to bond with their new furry friends. FGSC offers a unique experience that goes beyond cat cuddles and is a place dedicated to giving rescue cats a second chance at a loving home.

“We have an ability to connect people and cats in fun, therapeutic ways in a relaxing and positive environment,” Mikki Raye, Managing Director, said.

The mission of FGSC holds importance as it constructs a pathway between cats and future homes. By partnering with Long Beach Felines, a non-profit adoption with a mission to help neglected kittens find a home, the lounge creates an environment where cats can socialize and demonstrate their unique and lovable personalities outside of the traditional shelter setting.

Since the partnership began in 2019, the two organizations have found the perfect system for cat adoptions. Since all of LBF’s adoptable felines are at the FGSC, one looking for a new furry friend could first meet with the cats in the comfort of the FGSC and pursue adoptions through LBF. Following opening, the Feline Good Social Club has rescued and rehabilitated approximately 100 cats in the Downtown Long Beach area and has given around 600 cats a loving home.

This collaboration not only increases the chance of adoption but also helps relieve overcrowded shelters, giving even more felines a chance at a future home. Every cat that finds a new home opens an opportunity for another rescue, creating a ripple effect of positive change. This partnership showcases the importance of compassionate care and the power of a community to address the ongoing issue of animal homelessness.

The FGSC flourishes due to the ongoing support from the community of volunteers who assist at the lounge. The volunteers work hard to ensure the environment is positive, clean and kitty-friendly. Additionally, volunteers play a crucial role in caring for the cats at all times, in order to maintain their feelings of comfort and safety. Volunteers sustain the environment where lounge visitors can have stress-relieving experiences.

“Volunteers support the guest experience during open hours, lounge cleanliness during closed hours, and kitty love, socialization and wellness 24/7,” Raye said.

Interactions with animals such as cats can bring many positive benefits. These interactions can lower stress due to a lower heart rate and blood pressure as a result of the calm and consoling nature of cats. Similarly, those who struggle with their mental health often find relief in companionship with cats, with 88% of respondents to a poll from the American Psychiatric Association claiming that cats had benefits on their mental health.

“We have witnessed countless incredible reactions and transformations. Visitors often arrive feeling one way or the other, but they leave feeling overjoyed and elated!” said Raye.
