LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. – Los Alamitos High School’s winter formal is right around the corner with the theme Night in Ibiza. The dance is this Saturday, Jan. 18, from 7-11 p.m. at the House of Blues. Grab your friends and get ready for a night you will not forget!

Ibiza is located off the coast of Spain and is famous for its music festivals and nightclubs. People from around the world come to experience Ibiza’s once-in-a-lifetime island parties; from clubs to beaches, Ibiza has it all. The dance will re-create Ibiza’s nightlife with bright lights and a DJ, and the House of Blues location plays into the club life of Ibiza because of its concert venue feel.

“I think the theme is a super cool concept, and I am very excited to see what the decorations are going to look like,” Megan Mendez, a junior at LAHS, said.

Winter formal is about elegance and style, so everyone should wear their finest attire — re-imagined this year with an Ibizan twist. Playing into the style of Ibiza, outfits this year will likely differ from usual formal dance wear. When most people think of Ibiza, they are reminded of short dresses and bikinis, so students may swap long dresses for short, flowy dresses at this year’s formal. These dresses should be full of color, sparkles and flowers to go with Ibiza’s tropical island landscape. Students can also match their favorite suits with a flower tie or fashionable sunglasses.

“This year is my second year going to winter formal. I am going to wear a blue, lacy, flower dress. I am so excited,” Scarlet Davis, another junior, said.

The venue itself plays a huge role in creating the right atmosphere. This is the second year winter formal has been hosted at the House of Blues in Anaheim. The DJ will be blasting tunes all night long, playing everything from classic tunes to the latest hits. Students can dance the night away with a date or groove with their friends.

The winter formal court nominees were announced on ASB’s Instagram (@losalofficial) and the winter assembly on Monday. The winners will be announced during the dance.

Besides dancing, this event will have many other fun activities, including a photo booth with all kinds of props for students to make lasting memories. The dance will also have the dance floor lit with lasers and colorful lights. Food and snacks will be provided for students to enjoy.

Students can bring guests from other schools to winter formal if they fill out the Dance Guest Approval Form that can be found on the ASB website. Freshmen  cannot attend unless invited by an upper class man.

Ticket prices this week are $115 with an ASB card and $125 without an ASB card; all tickets sold at the door are $130. When buying tickets, bring your signed Student Dance Registration form and your LAHS ID.

With the dazzling lights and music in the air, this year’s winter formal will be an unforgettable experience for all. Griffins, make sure to buy your tickets to be transported into the magical world of Ibiza!

Freshman cannot attend formal; only sophomores, juniors and seniors can attend formal. This was corrected on Jan. 17 at 12:17 p.m.
