LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. — ‘Tis the season, Griffins, for holiday carols!
On Monday, Dec. 9, the Los Alamitos High School concert band will perform their holiday concert. Held at 7 p.m. in the PAC, this event will surely be a great way to get into the holiday spirit. This event is free for LAHS students, meaning everyone should attend to start celebrating Christmas early.
The concert band consists of a wind band, wind ensemble, wind symphony, wind orchestra, symphonic band and symphonic wind ensemble, which combine different sounds and elements to create a classic choral sound.
The band will play various songs that encourage the spirit of the holidays. Some of these songs include classic Christmas carols like “Sleigh Ride” and “Christmas Music for Winds.”
“Symphonic band is also playing ‘Encanto,’ ‘Whindam variations’ and ‘Barnum and Bailey’s Favorite,'” said Maddy Frank, LAHS marching band freshman.
“Whindum Variations” is a song that starts slow and expressive and incorporates elements of flute solo work in 3/4 time as it progresses. “Barnum and Bailey’s Favorite” is a classical circus march that uses flutes, clarinet, trumpet, saxophones and piano sounds. “Encanto” is lively and energetic, showing the band’s technical skills.
The band will also showcase their skills with unique and beautiful arrangements like “Sparkling Lights.”
Besides Christmas songs, the concert band is playing spooky Halloween pieces from “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and “Edward Scissorhands” like “Music For A Darkened Theater.”
“The concert band will be sure to get everyone in the holiday mood and is perfect for friends and family to enjoy together,”said Delilah Baker, an LAHS marching band junior. “We will be performing pieces from famous composers like Danny Elfman and Leroy Anderson, which music enjoyers will definitely enjoy. Students should also go to support local musicians, the arts and the performers.”
