LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. — The fall months are some people’s favorite months of the year. The browning leaves with the autumn breeze can bring flavor to the air, and movies, festivals, drinks and food can shape the autumn experience. If you haven’t yet put together a plan for your holiday season, these ideas can help.
Drinks/Food
There are a wide variety of coffee shops and cafes that have incorporated seasonal drinks into their brand, like Starbucks and Dunkin’ Donuts. Starbucks has recently released its popular line of winter drinks. However, if you’re not a fan of large coffee chains, there are smaller businesses you can support to enhance your season drink game. A few small coffee shops include Kean Coffee, Moongoat and Local Grind, the coffee shop down the street from Los Alamitos High School. Many have their seasonal drinks, but there are also seasonal foods like pumpkin spice bread, cinnamon apple bread and cranberry treats.
“I really like Local Grind or Starbucks because I like the way their coffee tastes,” said Lily Torres, a sophomore at LAHS.
Movies/Shows
People find lots of comfort in TV shows and movies because connecting with your favorite characters can bring comfort into your life. Seasonal TV shows and films like “Gilmore Girls,” “Twilight” and “The Vampire Diaries” are great comfort films.
However, others might like franchises like Marvel and DC because of the superhuman struggles they deal with. Some students like it as a way to escape from reality.
“My favorite fall movie would have to be ‘Hocus-Pocus’ because it’s a childhood classic,” another LAHS student said.
Arts/Crafts
Whether you’re coloring in a fall coloring book or using the bright colors of nature for a creative masterpiece, art is always a fun activity with friends. For inspiration, looking on Pinterest or Instagram can enhance that festive art. With friends, cute group activities like passing around a blank canvas for each person to add something or painting pumpkins together.
Art, movies and food are just a few of the many things to incorporate into your holiday. You can even try exploring new activities out of your comfort zone. If you like romance and drama movies, check out action suspense movies instead. Or, if you usually watch the lights at the Huntington Harbor, look for a different spot to sightsee. Overall, November and December are the months where everything moves so fast, so slow down, and enjoy the world transition from fall to winter.
