LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. — The annual Los Alamitos High School Homecoming game took place on the field of Westminster High School against Serra Cavalier High School on Friday, Sept. 27. The crowd was filled with LAHS Locos supporting and cheering on their home team. Although the Griffins lost to the Cavaliers, attendees were still thrilled to represent LAHS.
“I’m feeling amazing. We’re all getting hyped,” said junior and ASB member Lexi Kyriakos.
The final scoring of the night was 7-42, with the Cavaliers taking the final win. However, LAHS rose above their defeat, creating a great night and an enthusiastic atmosphere for the audience.
“I’m not sure (how they’re going to do.) They’re going to try,” said Rida Mohsin, an LAHS freshman. “Either way, I’m happy.”
Many people left after the halftime show and the announcement of the Homecoming court. Sadly, this caused many people to miss the touchdown LAHS made in the third quarter! This was one of the peaks of the night, as the crowd roared with excitement for their first score of the game.
With ASB launching T-shirts, leading chants and passing around Loco signs, there was plenty for students to anticipate. Homecoming king and queen winners were also revealed during halftime, with each nominee opening a box to see if it released balloons telling them that they won. This year’s winners were Troj Brejtifus and Lexi Smith.
“I’m feeling great,” Brejitfus said. “I’m going for a triple! I’m going for (the) winter (dance) and I’m going for Prom!”
Not only were the Homecoming winners revealed at halftime, but a halftime performance was also presented to the crowd, who needed to be hyped up after two quarters without scoring. LAHS cheer, song, Advanced Dance, color guard and band performed together.
“Halftime is pretty spectacular, especially to see all of the groups together,” said dance teacher Mrs. Jones. “You’ve got a band, color guard, song, cheering everybody together. It’s pretty cool.”
The crowd, performance and spirit all led to a great experience for attendees, despite LAHS’s loss, and boosted excitement toward the Homecoming dance the next day on Saturday, Sept. 28!
