Charli XCX brat green is strongly featured in the Dress to Impress update.

LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. — On Aug. 17, the Roblox game Dress to Impress was updated. This update included new items, hairs and a map update. This update was a collaboration between Dress to Impress and Charli XCX, a singer who recently released her album “BRAT,” which inspired the update. 

Charli XCX’s song “Apple” has become the face of the “BRAT” album and gained popularity on Roblox. Music from XCX’s album “BRAT” is played if the game theme is “BRAT.”

“I think it’s overrated. I’m tired of hearing it everywhere, (and) I don’t like how it got on TikTok and Dress to Impress. Don’t get me wrong, Charli XCX is a wonderful music artist,” said Angelina Alcazar, a freshman at Los Alamitos High School, “but (Charli XCX’s team) is overdoing it.”

The map and lobby are covered in an electric, neon green that matches the “BRAT” album cover. In the center of the lobby stands a new DJ booth and dance floor. Originally, when beginning a round in Dress to Impress, a theme was randomly generated for players. This new feature has introduced four generated themes that players can vote for.

On one end of the map, there is a circular stand displaying “BRAT” shirts, shorts, shoes and accessories that resemble the “BRAT” attire of XCX. “BRAT” inspired hairstyles have been added to the game as well. These new styles let players explore their outfits more and help make them perfect for the runway. 

“The album is good, but it’s nothing astonishing or special as everyone is making it out to be,” Alcazar said. “Personally, I believe her old music is way better.”

Recently, there has been controversy surrounding the removal of items in Dress to Impress. Many players have voiced their opinions on their favorite items being removed from the update. How many people find the new “BRAT” items unnecessary?

“I (like) the new brat items with the fur coat and the crop top. I think those two have really good potential that you can use in future themes,” said Mika Maristela, another freshman. “I like the event, and I love the poses. I love the poses so much; that’s the best part.” 

Along with the new clothing,  new poses are accessible to all players, as long as they play the game during the exclusive update period.

“I love the new poses, but my personal favorite is still pose 28,” said Emma Voidt, junior.

Dress to Impress has become time-sensitive due to social media’s influence on the game. Will it remain relevant, or will it fizzle away like the old game Fashion Famous?
