LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. – On a warm Monday evening on Aug. 26, the Los Alamitos High School girls flag football team faced Newport Harbor in a competitive game on the John Barnes field. From 6-7 p.m., the Griffins played a spirited game against the Sailors. Although they lost with a score of 0-26, the team showed off their resilient spirit and tremendous skill against Newport. Their irrepressible attitude and strong bond will allow for great success this season.
After the game, the Griffin Gazette spoke with Coach Bowe and two players, Rylee Robles and Katelyn Glatman, about the game’s results and what they could improve.
“It was a little rough,” said Coach Bowe, the new coach for the LAHS girls flag football team. “This is our first year together as a team, and I think we did well, but again, it didn’t turn out the way we wanted it to.”
With two wins and two losses already, the Griffins are off to a solid start. However, they are still looking to make improvements both physically and mentally to better themselves for upcoming games. Rylee Robles, a senior who started the team last year, wants to focus on her endurance.
“I think I can study the plays more, create cheers for the team and get positivity and pump up in there,” Robles said.
Since this is only their second year, there is still plenty of potential and opportunities for the flag football Griffins to improve both individually and as a team.
“This season, I am looking forward to playing with my friends and trying my hardest to move up to Varsity,” said freshman Katelyn Glatman.
Overall, the LAHS girls flag football team has allowed many girls to play the game they love at school. Whether they win or lose, these girls are happy to be participating and willing to work hard to improve their skills. The Griffins are off to a great start this year. Make sure to catch their next game on Sept. 4 at the LAHS John Barnes field.
