LOS ALAMITOS, CA — As summer draws near, it can be hard to get in the vibe of the season; however, these five movies will make the transition easier and get you ready to feel the sunshine of summer!

“High School Musical 2 “(2007) – G

The iconic “High School Musical 2” is perfect for kicking off the summer with its beachy vibes and tropical setting. Picking up after the first movie’s flawlessly romantic ending, the movie follows protagonists Gabriella Montez and Troy Bolton as they begin their first summer together. Set in the Evans family’s fabulous country club, Gabriella and Troy navigate the ups and downs of their relationship as they work out their obstacles. As they discover the music within themselves, this classic summer movie continues to stay fabulous.

“The Parent Trap” (1998) – PG

After meeting at summer camp, 11-year-old Hallie and Annie soon discover that they are twins, separated at birth after their parent’s divorce. Deciding to switch places at the end of camp, Hallie and Annie impersonate each other to meet their other parents. As they work to keep up their ruse, they soon find ways to get their parents back together and help their family become whole again. With its summer camp setting and playful mood, “The Parent Trap” is perfect for summer family movie nights.

“Mamma Mia!” (2008) – PG-13

“Mamma Mia!” is another quintessential movie to watch over the summer. Based on the fictional Greek island Kalokairi, the movie perfectly captures the vibe of summer with its beaches, sunshine, and island fashion. As the protagonist Sophie gets ready for her wedding, she decides to invite three men who could potentially be her father. After living her life wondering who her dad is, she decides to use her wedding as an opportunity to surprise her mother Donna and get her father to walk her down the aisle. As the movie progresses, Sophie discovers that finding her dad is much more difficult than she anticipated and as she learns about her origins, she finds herself as well.

“Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” (2005) – PG

The perfect movie centered on summer nostalgia is the 2005 coming-of-age movie,”The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants”. This film follows the journey of four young girls who must depart their group for the summer and only have a magical pair of jeans that fit them all perfectly in circulation. The pair of jeans is incredibly valuable to fit anyone who wears them and regardless of whether or not the girls are at home, in Greece, at soccer camp, or in another state, the pair of pants connects the girls throughout the summer. This movie is the most ideal for teenage girls as the movie tackles feelings of insecurity and shame through the bonds of friendship.

“Grease” (1978) – PG

Full of “Summer-Lovin”, “Grease” encapsulates the sunny, 1950’s feeling of the season. Following the romance of the main characters, gangster Danny and sweet Sandy, the movie dives into the identity of teenagers during high school. As Danny and Sandy fight the odds of their love, they discover their true selves and choose each other. “Grease” is a perfect watch for this summer with sun-kissed characters and fantastic songs.

Make sure to check out these must-watch movies this summer Griffins!
