LOS ALAMITOS, CA – Have you ever seen videos of people performing in the subway stations? What if the performers in the dirty New York City train station turned out to be a popular 90s rock band? This is exactly what happened before the release of Green Day’s 14th studio album, “Saviors.”

Green Day hyped up the release of their new album by hosting events, scavenger hunts, and even an undercover performance. The band has been advertising on their social media platforms, and with billboards and posters to promote their tour as well.

The band’s album was released on Friday, Jan. 19, but the promotions started a week before. Music stores such as Amoeba Music in Los Angeles hosted listening parties for their fans to listen and preview the album, with fun activities and prizes to add some excitement. Amoeba’s listening event was on Monday, Jan. 15 and had fans going crazy. The event included the album preview, photo opportunities, and exclusive merchandise such as posters and vinyls.

Amoeba Music wasn’t the only store hosting these events. Many other music stores around the United States were holding listening parties to celebrate Green Day’s newest album. The Run Out Groove Records store in Burbank was different from the others, as the band made a special appearance. They interacted with their fans and showed their appreciation and excitement for their upcoming release. Fans shared photos and faces of shock when Green Day appeared.

“We had no idea this was going to happen. There were over 200 of these listening events last night, all over the *world* and the boys… decided to surprise one of the shops,” said Run Out Groove Records via Instagram.

To connect more with their fans, Green Day teamed with Jimmy Fallon to promote themselves more creatively. They decided a live concert would be a fun and great way to celebrate. Fallon and the band dressed in costumes and set up their instruments in a NYC subway station, pretending to be a random music group. Most New Yorkers probably didn’t think anything suspicious since it isn’t so different from the normal subway landscape.

Videos started going viral of what looked like an ordinary subway station band until they ripped off their wigs and revealed themselves to be Green Day and Jimmy Fallon. They played some of their most popular songs such as “American Idiot,” which had people starting to crowd around them, taking photos and videos.

Although “Saviors” has already been released, the festivities are not over yet. Green Day is still promoting their upcoming tour, which will be celebrating the 30-year release of their album “Dookie” and the 20th anniversary of their album “American Idiot.” The tour will take place from July through September and make it to Los Angeles on Sept. 14. To add some spice, the band will be accompanied by special guests like The Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid, and The Linda Lindas.

It’s not too late to stream Green Day’s new album, “Saviors,” on any music streaming service or purchase some tickets for the upcoming tour. The band will continue to promote themselves and love the everlasting support from their fans, both new and old.
