LOS ALAMITOS, CA — It is that time of year. A time of scares, suspense, and sweets! Halloween is a favorite holiday for people all across the world, with over 172 million celebrating in the United States. Every year, trends for Halloween involve costumes and events.

Some of this year’s most popular costumes, according to Google Trends, include witches, dinosaurs, and fairies. Pop culture-oriented costumes include Spider-Man, Harley Quinn, and Stranger Things. The most popular categories also include the 1980s, superheroes, and Pokemon. When looking directly at California, the most common costume search in the Los Angeles area is Spider-Man. Most of these costume trends are similar from year to year. However, the placement of some costumes, such as Among Us, are dramatically different compared to past years.

Another major part of Halloween is candy. $3.1 billion is estimated to be spent on candy alone this Halloween and the total spending for Halloween is $10.6 billion, the highest amount in U.S. history for both categories. While everyone has their personal favorite candies, there are some surprises to be seen on a state-by-state basis.

According to candystore.com, California’s reported favorite candy is Reese’s Cups, which may not surprise many people. Some of the more interesting picks are the four states that have Hot Tamales as their favorite candy. As a matter of fact, Hot Tamales are recorded as the fifth most popular candy this year in America, and Reese’s Cups are number one. A few more candy outliers include Washington and New Jersey’s affinity for Tootsie Pops, Georgia’s love of Swedish Fish, and West Virginia’s feelings toward Blow Pops.

Pumpkin carving is another major Halloween tradition that people partake in every year. However, this practice is actually harming the environment. If you are interested, visit the article below.
